Help! I Can’t Decide: Fat Transfer or Body Sculpting

So.  Your bestie calls you screaming into the phone “Guess. What!”  You’re on the other end of the phone intensely awaiting her big reveal.  She continues, “We’re invited to NY Fashion Week!!!!! We have front row seats to the couture runway show!!” Your stomach begins to turn in knots as you recall all the pasta and cake that’s now smothering your abs and waist. Oh, and let’s not forget all the sitting you’ve been doing at work that has your booty flat as a patty. ( that even possible??!?!)  Anyways, you respond, “Oh...ok...that’s great!” Immediately after hanging up the phone you put on your FBI hat and go full stalk-mode. With the fashion show only a few months away, you’re looking for a life-changing transformation that will flatten your abs, shrink your waist, and, give you a perfectly round booty in as little as two months. Oh and, you’d also like to transform at your convenience using as little time and energy as possible.  Pretty soon you realize there are only a few options for you to choose from: (1) invest in a body sculpting fitness program, or, (2) call Dr. “Snatched-Waist-Juicy-Booty” and have him get your curves on point! We know how hard making this decision can be, so we laid out the facts to make it easier for you to choose.

What’s the Difference?!?

Fat transfer, better known in the medical community as fat grafting or fat injection, is a cosmetic procedure performed by a board certified plastic surgeon (see The American Society of Plastic Surgeons) who uses specially designed utensils to remove excess fat from specific areas of the body.  The extracted fat is then transferred into areas of the body that lack shape or volume.  Basically, liposuction is performed on a fatty area of your body - like your stomach or thighs - and then that fat is treated and then injected into an area of your body that you’d like to have fattened - like your breasts, hips or butt.  This is commonly done in the “brazilian butt lift”/BBL to increase the shape and size of the booty.

Body sculpting, on the other hand is a form of exercise. It is often referred to as weight, resistance, and/or strength training, as it requires you to engage in a regular fitness regimen, where you create the curves that you want by building your muscles.  This muscle growth (hypertrophy) is accomplished by using your own body weight or added weight (ankle weights, wrist weights, hand weights, dumbbells, resistance bands, or machines at the gym) to apply tension to your muscles through performing specific exercises.  As with any other fitness regimen, for the best results you will need to get plenty of rest and eat a balanced diet that is low in fat and consists of foods that promote muscle growth. When done properly, body sculpting will allow you to sculpt and tone your muscles for your desired aesthetic.

Which one will give flat abs, a small waist, and a bigger booty in as little as two months?

The short answer, both. The long answer, well, it depends upon how much time, effort, and money you’re willing to invest into your transformation.  Let’s get into this breakdown:

It’s All About Your Body-Goals!

If all you want to do is simply spot reduce certain areas of your body while fattening other areas (with no regard for overall proportion and body composition), then hell-yeah, at first glance fat transfer is a good choice for you. On the other hand though, if you (like most women) have a desire to have a well proportioned thick and sexy silhouette with a toned and defined body contour, and, as a major plus you want to enjoy an overall improvement to the quality of your health in general, then body sculpting is the only way to go!

Invest Time And save money

On average, and depending upon the body part being treated, fat transfer takes approximately 3-5 hours to complete. Costs are pretty steep and can range from $400-$15,000. With new advancements in technology, recovery time can be as little as two weeks or as long as several months. Keep in mind though that you will need to engage in some sort of fitness activities to maintain your new body. Body sculpting, or strength training, costs as little as $5 for a gym membership or a set of hand weights or resistance bands. You will need to invest at least three hours per week over the course of a few months to see quick results. Both options take time, and a little bit of money, to achieve the best results. It all boils down to how much money you’re willing to spend versus how much time you want to immediately invest into your transformation.

Health Concerns

The long-lasting effects of body sculpting support living a quality healthy life as you work on improving yourself from the inside-out. Cosmetic surgery provides an expeditious way to “fix” your body’s aesthetic. It does not, however, address the underlying causes and side effects of carrying excess fat on your body, or, put you in a position to resolve any internal ailments that may be causing you to carry so much fat.  Not to mention, it’s not as simple as going to your cosmetic surgeon’s office and walking out with the perfect body. If your BMI is 30+ you will need to devote time to a fitness regimen to get your BMI below 30. For safety reasons, you cannot have the procedure performed until you get your BMI under control. Regardless of whether your BMI is above or below 30, you will still need to be of general good health before a doctor will operate on you. And after the procedure, you will need to be disciplined enough to maintain your new body. So you still need to engage in some sort of fitness activities on a regular basis.

The Choice is Yours!

No matter which way you flip it, you cannot escape the need to engage in a regular fitness regimen. Since the overall objective is to live a healthier life and actually be healthier, it makes more sense to go use body sculpting to achieve your body goals. But if you think about it, wouldn’t it be better to save your money, enjoy the benefits of a fitness regimen, and spend time enhancing your body from the inside-out?!? We think so. But let us know what you think.
