Seven Steps to Accomplish Your Fitness Goals

On this post, I am going to cut straight to the chase.  Keep reading to learn the 7 steps that will help you to accomplish your fitness goals.

There’s no better time to get fit than right now.  Wherever you are right now, whether physically or mentally, stop what you’re doing and get moving!  This is really as easy as it sounds. If you’re currently at work, sitting at your desk reading this, push your chair back and extend your legs a few times - do a few reps of leg extensions.  Get up and go for a walk during your lunch break instead of using the entire time to eat. Put down that candy and find another way to walk to the ladies room instead of walking by the receptionist’s desk where the candy is located.  Do you see how easy that was?!? No matter where you are in your life, you can Get started RIGHT NOW!

One of the best ways to reach any goal is to surround yourself with like-minded people that will constantly inspire you to strive for reaching your goals.  It's more beneficial to you when those same people can hold you accountable for your progress and reward you for your success along your journey. One of the best ways to do this is to join a fitness challenge.  Look for a fitness challenge that will provide you with the support that you need to stay on track with your fitness goals. An ideal fitness challenge will keep you engaged through incentives that compel you to stick with your fitness plan.  The Fitness Vixen Challenge delivers on this effort and will push you to accomplish your fitness goals over the span of 90 days.

Whether it’s the foods you eat, the workouts you do, or the schedules you keep, you will need to find and create time to maintain all of these things in balance with one another. Sometimes I feel like eating cake, sometimes I don’t! Sometimes I indulge, sometimes I won’t! That's just how it goes. Like many other aspects in life, you have to take the good with the bad and accept the things that you cannot control or change. Each of us has a craving for junk or sometimes we don't want to get up and get moving. The trick to this however is to create balance.  I don't believe there is absolutely one individual woman on this beautiful planet that can honestly say that she has always eaten/exercised perfectly - that would be absolute insanity! Anyone who knows me knows that I am a sucker for cheese and cookies and cream ice-cream! (Lets not forget a warm brownie topped with melting vanilla ice-cream! YUM! lol!) I am also known to have days where I do absolutely nothing except binge on my fave movies and sit in the house all day doing absolutely nothing! Then I get back to the program and back to maintaining my curves! Guess what - IT'S OK! I maintain balance and I LOVE it!

The weakest muscle is the one that requires the most strength and discipline to train. You must be persistent to build strength in order to get a weak muscle to function properly; and realistic enough to know that it takes time to build strength. This discipline can be applied to any aspect of life, CONSISTENCY IS KEY — it takes time to build, but once developed, it can help you maintain a fit lifestyle. I like to use what I call the one-to-one factor — allow yourself to take this journey one meal at a time, one workout at a time and one day at a time. You will reach your fitness goals no matter how big, small, complex or simple.  All you have to do is practice building consistency. One of the things I have struggled with the most is consistency; so believe me when I say I know the struggle is real.

True to the old adage “You plan to fail because you fail to plan,” the journey to staying fit  is as simple as making a plan (that works for you) and planning to stick to it. Of course, some things are easier said than done; however, the best way to put your words into action is to devise a plan for your fitness goals and execute that plan timely.  This is the one thing that helps me to keep moving and shaking. I plan out my workouts and meals for the upcoming week. When the time arrives I already know what-where-when-how I need to get things done. When I’m done working out I already know what I am going to eat, drink and snack on for the day and the rest of the week. By preparing in advance I make it less likely for me to stray from my journey and more likely for me to stay on track.

Have you ever completed a workout session only to feel like you did a bunch of nothing? OR — Have you ever tried to work every body part in one workout session only to realize that you don't have enough time? I have, and by doing so I absolutely exhausted and discouraged myself. I thought, “This just isn't for me…” until I realized that I was not using my time wisely.  Along my journey I wanted to burn a lot of fat without wasting a lot of time doing it, so I started doing high intensity interval (hiit/h.i.i.t.) exercises. I got my heart pumping, calories burning and did it all under an hour for 3-5x/week. This allowed me to still have time to do ME without losing ME or wasting my time!

I remember being at my doctor’s office asking, "What's the secret to losing weight permanently?" I was so irked at the reply I received, but it's true - the only secret is to GET UP AND WORKOUT. That's it! The only way to lose weight, get in shape and stay in shape is to actually start your journey. If you’re anything like me then sometimes exercise can feel like a grueling task. But, I've learned that it doesn't have to feel that way!  Whatever it is that you enjoy doing - whether it's running, dancing, cycling, boxing - that keeps you smiling while your body is moving-blood flowing-calories burning - DO THAT and you'll never feel like it's work! I LOVE the sound of bass and drums and the way my body feels grinding to the beat! I do my fave exercises to my fave songs. I never realize how hard I'm dancing until the song ends and I'm drenched in sweat! I always enjoy dancing, shaking my booty and going hard working on my curves. All I have to do is show up and show out!
